Scott Parker, FASLA
Scott Parker co-founded DesignWorks in 1994 when he relocated his practice to Charleston, South Carolina from Cambridge, Massachusetts. Scott began his professional career in 1981 and has undertaken projects over his more than 30 years of service on five continents. As the Senior Partner of DesignWorks, he personally directs the design of each of the firm’s projects.
Prior to starting his own business, Scott was an Associate with Benjamin Thompson and Associates in Cambridge, where he prepared master plans for urban districts around the globe including, London, Tokyo, Auckland, Glasgow, Cardiff, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, New York, Savannah and Miami. He also worked with Carr Lynch on master plans for Tanglewood Music Center, Charlottesville, Virginia and major park projects in New York.
Mr. Parker taught at the Clemson Center for Architecture in Charleston and at the Harvard Graduate School of Design Career Discovery Program. Currently, Scott is a Board Member of The Charleston Parks Conservancy, The Riley Center and The Friends of the Lowcountry Lowline. He also serves on the City of Charleston Peninsula Task Force, the Advocacy Committee of Historic Charleston Foundation, The Urban Land Institute Council on Sustainable Design and The Riley Mayors’ Design Fellowship Resource Team. Scott is a past Chairman of the Sullivans Island Planning Commission and the Past President of the Ashely Hall School Board of Directors.
Scott received his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia with Honors in 1980 and Masters of Landscape Architecture in Urban Design from Harvard University in 1986. He was inducted into the 2018 ASLA Council of Fellows, Landscape Architecture’s highest honor.
