In County Clare, on the west coast of Ireland, DesignWorks prepared the master plan and assisted in the design of the lodge and club for the Doonbeg Golf Club. Associated with a Greg Norman designed course, the lodge occupies a promatory overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and a crescent shaped beach with dunes rising more than sixty feet. The landscape is void of trees, making whatever is placed there visible for miles. Borrowing from local settlement patterns and building forms, master plan creates a place that feels appropriate in the County Clare landscape and establishes Doonbeg Golf Club as a world-class destination. DesignWorks was subsequently hired by the nearby Village of Doonbeg to prepare a village wide master plan to direct and embrace the new development pressures the Golf Club brought to the area.
