Robert Maerlender has over 20 years experience in landscape architecture and planning, 19 of which have been with DesignWorks. Originally from New York, he earned his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from The State University of New York at Syracuse with Honors and studied abroad in Paris, London and Milan.
Bob has extensive experience working in sensitive coastal environments from Rhode Island to coastal Georgia and internationally in Costa Rica, Ireland, and the Bahamas. Bob brings a strong background in design and construction to the team focusing on the relationship of our cultural landscape and the built environment. During his time at DesignWorks, Bob has designed and managed numerous projects ranging from large scale master planning to the intimate scale of the single family home. His work includes: the Renovation of Colonial Lake, Freshfields, The Sanctuary Hotel, Briars Creek Golf Club, Cassique Golf Club, The Myrtle Beach Air Base Redevelopment, Ashley Hall School Campus and some of the low country’s finest private homes.
In his free time Mr. Maerlender volunteers as a co-director of PublicCity a local non-profit design agency, whose work has been recognized for a number of environmental art exhibits, enjoys mountain biking (when he can find a mountain) and coaches little league baseball. Bob is a third generation die hard Cleveland Indians fan and has been known to drive ridiculous distances to watch minor league baseball.
